Non-polarized Sunglasses are a uniform shade of a dark color which darken all light passing through them, regardless of the direction (polarization) of the light.
Polarized Sunglasses have a pattern which darkens more of one direction of the light than the other. (If I recall correctly, polarized sunglass lenses are designed to minimize glare from objects which are horizontal such as the ocean or snow.)
To really see this effect, look at something through two polarized lenses, then rotate one of the lenses with respect to the other. (It doesn't matter which lens you rotate.)
When the polarization direction of both lenses is the same, the view that you see will be much brighter than it will be when one lens is rotated 90 degrees with respect to the other. With the polarization directions perpendicular to each other, very tiny light gets through the lenses at all.
non polarized Sunglasses are mostly
for fashion only. I prefer the polarized ^.~
